“Greenpeace International Wednesday, alleged that Yum! Brands is using rainforest wood in paper products used to package their food. Image courtesy of Greenpeace International”

“Yum! Brands, the maker of KFC, is blazing a trail of destruction through Indonesian rain forests, chopping down trees and threatening endangered Sumatran tigers to produce its signature crispy chicken buckets, according to a Greenpeace International report released Wednesday.
The report How KFC is Junking the Jungle alleges Yum, KFC’s parent company, uses rainforest wood in their paper products to package food.
Nine Greenpeace activists marched on Yum’s Louisville, Kentucky headquarters Wednesday morning to mark the report’s release, hanging a banner from the building’s pillars emblazoned with a Sumatran tiger and reading KFC Stop Trashing My Home.
“The colonel’s secret is out,” Shane Moffatt, forest campaigner with Greenpeace Canada, told the Star. “They’re keeping their chicken fresh with packaging from rainforests. The last rainforests of the world are ending up as trash on our streets. It’s a needless tragedy.””

KFC—lining the pockets of the 1% while trashing the planet.

Another glimpse of a libertarian future. This is not acceptable.

BAYER STOCKHOLDERS VOTE TO KILL THE BEES
…but citizens around the WORLD are still signing the PETITION demanding the cessation of production of BEE-KILLING PESTICIDES!
Update: 30 April  2012
It’s outrageous. Despite our massive petition delivery directly into the Bayer meeting, major shareholders voted to keep their bee-killing poisons. Let’s keep up the pressure — sign the petition and send to everyone. When we reach one million signatures the petition will be delivered to the Board of Management and Supervisory Board of Bayer, and our next step is to call for strong government regulation to save the bees.
Posted: 24 April  2012 Quietly, globally, billions of bees are dying, threatening our crops and food. But if Bayer stops selling one group of pesticides, we could save bees from extinction. Four European countries have begun banning these poisons, and some bee populations are already recovering. But Bayer, the largest producer of neonicotinoids, has lobbied hard to keep them on the market. Now, massive global pressure from Avaaz and others has forced them to consider the facts, and in 24 hours, Bayer shareholders will vote on a motion that could stop these toxic chemicals. Let’s all act now and shame the shareholders to stop killing bees. The pressure is working, and this is our best chance to save the bees. Sign the urgent petition and send this to everyone — let’s reach half a million signers and deliver it directly to shareholders tomorrow in Germany!

There really ought to be a law when the consequences affect so much of our agriculture. DDT was outlawed why not this?

veganeurotica:

So this happened today apparently. This was the protest I was at earlier and was part of the arrests and ugliness that happened before I got there. The protest was countering the tea party rally in Boston Common today, which hosted anti-lgbt bigot Scott Lively (author of The Pink Swastika- tw for horrific anti-lgbt hate)
The photo was taken by Paul Weiskel, and you can see other photos here.
This is what the protester had to say about the image, copied from Facebook:
“Hi, This is a picture of me. The “pale violet material” I’m holding was a wig I was wearing that a Tea Partier had just knocked off my head. I was asking the tea partier to explain to me why he thought it was okay to knock my wig off (“My hand slipped”, he replied sarcastically) when the officer came up and said something along the lines of “okay, take your shit and get out of here” and shoved me a few feet. I turned to him and said “Don’t push me”. he replied “Don’t push you?!” then did this. You can decide yourself if this was deserved or not.”

No, not OK.

“The best 4 minutes I’ve invested in the internet all week. I wish our own Prime Minister had even half the balls of the President of Ireland in standing up against this nonsense. Some people might wonder why I’m so interested in US politics…but ideological “climate” doesn’t respect borders, and any shift to the right makes it more “acceptable” for our own Conservative government to run with their own short-sighted (and corporate-driven) inclination to chip away at the principles and values Canadians have historically fought hard to put into place. This video is truly riveting, and his “wanker whipping up fear” at the end was hilarious!”

U.S. Justice Department indicts Swiss bank Wegelin »

The United States indicted Wegelin, the oldest Swiss private bank, on charges that it enabled wealthy Americans to evade taxes on at least $1.2 billion hidden in offshore bank accounts, the U.S. Justice Department said on Thursday.

The announcement, by federal prosecutors in Manhattan, represents the first time an overseas bank has been indicted by the United States for enabling tax fraud by U.S. taxpayers.

About time we settle the score with these enablers of anti-American, unpatriotic and treasonous weasels. My kids need to canvas the neighborhood to raise funds for supplies for their school while Thurston Howell III’s only concern is how best to trick out his vacation villa with gold leaf and Brazilian rainforest teak.

Tumblr and Youtube shut down by the end of 2011 »

epic4chan:

geek feed:

As the man say: Don’t just reblog this and feel like you helped the world because you’re half-assing it. Sign it. Reblog it. Sign it and reblog it.

I, for one, find Tumblr one of the more reliable sources of information and one of the most up to date. We knew about the content of Obama’s impromptu surprise announcement before he announced it himself, just to name an example. The same difference applies to Youtube, so when I see things like this:

Sssssooooo…the government is enforcing copyright. Without proof or hearing they uproot a UK resident and SHIP HIM OVER to be persecuted in the US. WITHOUT PROOF.

Now we have The IP Act that is on the fast track of becoming a law.

An except that summarizes what this does: “The PROTECT IP Act would allow copyright owners – movie studios and other content providers – simply to accuse a website of infringement, which could lead to that site being shut down by court order and entire links to the site being wiped clean from the Internet.”

I’m going to go out on a limb here and say that if you even pass a disagreeable fart, a big angry fist will punch you in the butthole and seal said butthole forever.

WHERE’S OUR SHIT GONNA GO?

Before:

After:

So the title of this, while an exaggeration of something that hasn’t happened, is a very real possibility and it’s so close to happening.

SIGN THIS SHIT

SIGN THIS SHIT

SIGN THIS SHIT

SIGN THIS SHIT

SIGN THIS SHIT

SIGN THIS SHIT

SIGN THIS SHIT

SIGN THIS SHIT

SIGN THIS SHIT

SIGN THIS SHIT

Don’t just reblog this and feel like you helped the world because you’re half-assing it. Sign it. Reblog it. Sign it and reblog it.

Also sign this

Sign everything and anything you can.

But most importantly…

Calling by phone is much more effective than petitions or e-mails.

Enter your zip code here and get the numbers to call
(numbers shown on right hand side of page)

Important.
